SIGNAL NO.2 ULIT ANG NUEVA ECIJA MANILA - (UPDATE 3 - 5:30 p.m.) Typhoon Glenda intensified slightly Tuesday afternoon as it barreled towards the Bicol region, where it is expected to make landfall in Albay in the evening. As of 4 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the eye of the storm was a mere 60 kilometers east of Legazpi, Albay moving west-northwest at 19 kilometers per hour with winds of 130 kph near the center, gusting to 160 kph. After hitting land, Glenda is expected to cross Albay, heading for Southern Luzon and then Metro Manila, which it is expected to hit Wednesday morning before leaving Luzon through Bataan in the afternoon. PAGASA raised public storm warning Signal No. 3 (winds of 101-185 kph over 18 hours) over Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate, Quezon including Polillio Islands, Marinduque, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Northern Samar, and the northern parts of Samar and Eastern Samar provinces. Signal No. 2 (61-100 kph winds over 24 hours) is up over northern southernAurora, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, NUEVA ECIJA, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Zambales, Lubang Island, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Biliran, the rest of Samar and EasternSamar, the northern part of Leyte province, and Metro Manila. Northern Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, La Union, Occidental Mindoro, the rest of Leyte, Southern Leyte, and northern Cebu including Cebu City, and Camotes Islandsare under Signal No. 1 (30-60 kph winds over 36 hours). PAGASA says moderate to intense rainfall of 7.5-20.0 mm per hour should be expected within the storm’s 500-kilometer diameter. The weather bureau warned of possible flashfloods and landslides in all affected areas, as well as storm surges of up to three meters in places under Signals No. 2 and 3. It also warned fishing boats and other small vessels against venturing out to sea. Glenda is forecast to be 300 km west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur on Thursday and in southern China by Friday.
