( SILVER JUBILEE ANNUAL SHOW ) 2014 ORGANISED BY : BENGAL ROSE SOCIETY In Coordination with DALHOUSIE ATHLETIC CLUB KOLKATA On 11 & 12 January, 2014 Venue : DALHOUSIE ATHLETIC CLUB 6 & 7, Guru Nanak Sarani (Mayo Road) Kolkata- 700 069 SCHEDULES AND RULES R U L E S : 1. The show is open to all except where stated otherwise. All roses exhibited shall be from plants grown by the exhibitor and should have been the exclusive property of the exhibitor for at least three months prior to the date of the Rose Show. Special attention of the exhibitors is invited to the rule which prohibits the exhibition of roses obtained by gifts, by purchase, by exchange or in any other way. In the case of institutions, nurseries etc., where the entry is not by an individual in his own capacity, the blooms exhibited shall be only from plants growing in the gardens of the aforesaid bodies for at least three months and shall not have been obtained by gifts, purchase, by exchange or in any other way from others whether individuals or corporate bodies. Pooling of blooms or joint entries by more than one institution, nursery etc. is NOT PERMITTED. 2. Intention for participation may please be conveyed to the Society in advance for reservation of space. Exhibitors shall, if required, permit such persons as may be appointed by the Society to, view their nurseries/garden, prior to or after the Show. 3. Exhibitor shall arrange his/her exhibit not later than 10 A.M. on the date of the show, fill in the prescribed form and thereafter shall leave the hall to facilitate judging. Staging materials will be provided by the Society. 4. All the exhibits must be properly labelled, otherwise the entry may be disqualified. Rules for exhibiting roses raised in West Bengal or India have been stated in their respective sections. Those are to be strictly followed. Exhibitors must ensure that their exhibits could be easily identified by the Exhibit Number Provided by the Society. They must not write their names before judgement. However, they may do so after the judgement is over, on the tag to be provided by the Society. 5. An Exhibitor may enter more than one exhibit in a Section, but will be eligible for only one prize in that Section. 6. In each Section, normally there will be one First and Second and one Third prize. However, the judges may withhold a prize when in their opinion none of the exhibits deserve a prize. Certificate of participation will be given to all the participants not getting a prize. Prize will be given in the form of attractive cash awards and a certificate. 7. For arriving at highest aggregate points, First prize will carry 4 points, Second prize 2 points and Third prize 1 point. 8. All possible care of the exhibits will be taken, but the Society shall not be held responsible for any loss or damage. All cut flowers in the exhibition will be the property of the Society. The Society will dispose the materials, after the show is over, in a manner they think fit. 9. Dispute, if any, must be lodged in Writing to the Show Committee within one hour after the judgement is over. Verbal complain will not be entertained. In all cases, Judges’ decision will be binding. 10. All the CHALLENGE TROPHIES ARE RUNNING TROPHIES and will have to be returned to the Society within six months after receipt. CHALLENGE TROPHIES 1. Atul Dewan Challenge Trophy donated by Sri Ajit Kumar Dewan will be awarded to the Best Rose of the Show. 2. Raja Ram Omar Memorial Challenge Trophy donated by Sri M. L. Gupta will be awarded to the Exhibitor securing the highest aggregate points in Section I. 3. Late Sashi Bhusan Mukhopadhyay Challenge Trophy donated by Sri K. P. Mukherjee will be awarded to the Exhibitor, securing the highest aggregate points in Section II. 4. Sushama Neogy Challenge Trophy donated by Sri S. Guha Neogy will be awarded to the Exhibitor securing the highest aggregate points in Section III. 5. Juthika Roy Chowdhury Challenge Trophy donated by Sri M. Roy Chowdhury will be awarded to the Exhibitor securing the highest aggregate points in Section IV. 6. Bombay Rose Society Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the Exhibitor securing highest aggregate points in Section V. 7. Dr. Sibaprasad Bandyapadhyay Memorial Challenge Trophy donated by ‘Sonali Fasal’ will be awarded to the Exhibitor, securing the highest aggregate points in Section VI. 8. Late Nalin Chandra Banerjee Challenge Trophy donated by Justice Umesh Chandra Banerjee will be awarded to the Best Rose, adjudged from Section V & VI. 9. Pushparaj Challenge Trophy donated by a well wisher will be awarded for the best exhibit in Section VII. 10. A Challenge Trophy donated by Sri Biren Bose will be awarded to the Exhibitor securing the highest aggregate points in Section VIII. 11. Damayanti N. Mehta Memorial Challenge Trophy, donated by Sri Navinchandra R. Mehta, will be awarded to a large flowered rose for best keeping quality. Judging will be made on the last day of the show. 12. Jain Misrilal Padmavati Foundation Challenge Trophy, will be awarded for highest aggregate points in all sections. 13. Gouri Bose Memorial Challenge Trophy, donated by Chandana Bose, will be awarded to the best exhibit in Section IX. (No cash award). 14. A Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the best group of pot roses of the show. 15. Dr. Debdas Bhunia Challenge Trophy, donated by Dr. Debdas Bhunia, will be awarded to the best pot of the show. S C H E D U L E CLASS—A ( CUT FLOWERS ) SECTION—I : OPEN TO ALL (3 Large flowered Roses will have to be displayed in each of the following colour group. Large flowered roses mean mostly H. T. Roses or any rose which blooms singly to a stem.) 1. Red Group 2. Pink Group 3. Orange / Scarlet / Vermillion Group 4. White / Off White / Cream Group 5. Yellow Group 6. Mauve / Lavender Group 7. Bi-colour / Multi-colour / Colour blend Group / Stripe. SECTION—II : OPEN TO ALL (One bunch of cluster flowered roses will have to be exhibited in each of the following colour group. Cluster flowered roses mean mostly floribunda roses or any other roses having similar blooming habit but not the blooms of dwarf polyantha / mini roses.) 8. Red Group 9. Pink Group 10. Orange / Scarlet / Vermillion Group 11. White / Off White / Cream Group 12. Yellow Group 13. Mauve / Lavender Group 14. Bi-colour / Multi-colour / Colour blend Group / Stripe. SECTION—III : OPEN TO ALL 15. A collection of 6 different specimen blooms of large flowered roses. 16. A collection of 6 different large flowered roses in open stage of blooming. (Stamen must be clearly visible, pollen should be fresh). 17. A collection of 3 different large flowered roses, introduced in 2005 and up to the present. (Name and year of Introduction must be given). 18. A specimen of large flowered rose. 19. A collection of as many varieties for visual effect of roses as possible. (Tying of any kind will lead to disqualification) 20. A collection of 3 different specimens of mini /dwarf polyantha roses. 21. A specimen of fragrant large flowered rose. 22. A collection of three different fragrant large flowered rose. SECTION—IV : OPEN TO ALL 23. A collection of 6 specimen blooms of AGENA. (Only a Challenge Trophy will be awarded along with cash amount and a certificate. There will be no other prize). SECTION—V : Roses raised in India only. OPEN TO ALL The Exhibitor must produce the catalog of reputed nursery man for authenticating the variety, (if necessary). 24. A collection of 3 different large flowered roses (excluding stripe). 25. A collection of 3 different striped large flowered roses. 26. A specimen of large flowered rose. 27. A bunch of cluster flowered rose. SECTION—VI : Roses raised in West Bengal. OPEN TO ALL The Exhibitor must produce the catalog of reputed nursery man for authenticating the variety. A certificate from the breeder / raiser must be presented to the show-committee at the time of enrolling the entry. The new variety must have a name and parentage. 28. A collection of 3 large flowered roses. 29. A specimen of large flowered rose. 30. A specimen bunch of a cluster flowered rose. SECTION—VII : 31. NEW CREATION: A specimen flower of a large flowered rose or a bunch of cluster flowered rose or mini rose which has not yet been introduced in market. CLASS—B (Pot Grown Roses) All pots (either for competition or display) should reach the show ground on 10th January, 2013 between 4 to 8 p.m. SECTION—VIII : OPEN TO ALL 32. 3 pots of 3 different large flowered roses. 33. 3 pots of 3 different cluster flowered roses. 34. A collection of 6 pots of roses. 35. A pot of large flowered rose. 36. 3 pots of mini / Polyantha rose. 37. A pot of clustered flowered rose. 38. A pot of mini / Polyantha rose. 39. 3 pots of RED ROSES in bloom. OR 3 pots of PINK ROSES in bloom. CLASS—C (Rose arrangement) SECTION—IX : 40. Indian Style / Modern 41. Japanese Arrangement (Open to All School Students up to age of 14) 42. An arrangement of mixed colour roses. N. B.— The exhibitors are required to name the theme, which the arrangement represents. Accessories are permitted but in all the exhibits roses must predominate. (Prize will be awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd along with Certificate).
