SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR: When SIN CITY first arrived in the theaters, it was fresh, though extreme. Definitely flash over substance, though Bruce Willis and Mickey Roarke gave it SOME heart. For the sequel new folks have been added, but Willis shows up (as a ghost) and Roarkes character becomes, (shock,) comic relief! Sure, the rich, comic book motifs are still there, and its still a wonder to look at. There is plenty of violence, nudity and flash, but the film is, despite its insistence that it is not, ultimately cold. The characters that have any good in them are murdered, made insane or turn corrupt. Not much to care for, so the long playing time makes it a bit exhausting. Not a terrible movie, but stuffed with too much of everything: too many characters, too many stories, too many bravura set pieces that, nevertheless, seem repetitive. This would have made a GREAT series on cable, with each character getting their own half hour. As it is; it is messy, but there are SOME stories that are, thankfully, resolved from the first movie, and the cast, particularly Joseph Gordon Levitt is stellar. Even Jessica Alba has a meatier turn this time around. Worth a look but flawed. https://youtube/watch?v=nqRRF5y94uE
