SINGAPORE – WEEK’S UP FOR 14th MARCH 2014 MID-TERM HOLIDAY The school will be on holiday from 17th to 21st March 2014. All sessions including Extended Days and Infant Community Classes will be suspended for the week. School resumes on 24th March 2014. FROM THE CLASSES Triangles – Different types and how they differ from one another Marsupials – What is a marsupial? (This unit spanned the week) Kangaroo – Life-cycle, their young and habitat St Patrick’s Day – Introduction and Songs (This Little Leprechaun and When Irish Eyes are smiling). We also had a special snack of butter and sugar sandwiches in the shape shamrocks. IB: Worksheet on naming marsupials MANDARIN Kangaroo – Introduction and life-cycle Rhymes – Entitled ‘Spring’ Conversation – ‘Good morning’, ‘Good afternoon’, ‘Hello’ and ‘Goodbye’ BIAN DANG BAN (BROADRICK) Spring is in the air, and we had a week of all things spring: Continued learning the rhyme “It is raining” Talked about flowers Made a ‘rose’ pencil for craft. BIAN DANG BAN (NEWTON) Animals – Naming animals Conversation – polite terms such as ‘pardon me’ and ‘thank you’ Strokes - Practicing strokes and characters at different levels. EXTENDED DAY (BROADRICK) Cookery project – (Edible) ‘Leprechaun Hat’ Mellow-jello marshmallows coated in white chocolate, nestling on a green pikelet! Yummy! Quite naturally they were gone before long! Wonder if the Leprechauns got to them! Mind Map – Marsupials Watched a video of a kangaroo and her joey Significance of Earth Hour, which is from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on 29th March 2014. Do look out for our contribution to this important day! Variations with the Sensorial materials: Triangle - the constructor EXTENDED DAY (NEWTON) Academics – Academic work in the Extended Day continued on an individual basis. Materials from all areas of the Montessori environment were used with a focus on mathematics and language. St Patrick’s Day - We have been looking forward all week to baking our very own Irish Scones. We had fun making the scones ate them with jam and butter. We would like send a very special ‘thank you’ to Ms Conneely for giving us her special recipe and joining us in the Extended Day to show us how its done. They were quite simply, delicious. We also did crafts, drawing, paintings, learned about Ireland and danced the jig! HINDI Flowers – learned the names of flowers in Hindi. Embroidery – we tried our hand at embroidery. It was a lot of fun. Academics - Children continued their work with Matra ki peti analysing words at various levels, using swar first then matras INFANT COMMUNITY Group Lesson (Forest Animals) – Tiger, Lion, Giraffe, Zebra St. Patrick’s Day, What is an emergency? Art and Craft – Free drawing with marker pens Music – Use of instruments Those smiling lads with the Smart Electric Car (within the picture gallery below) are none other than our back office guys, in their Irish togs, modelling for the camera!
