SITUATION REPORT October 22, 2014 Dear MARK, Can you believe it? Were just over two weeks out from the critical midterm election. Your generous support has allowed us to continue our independent expenditure campaigns to support our 14 endorsed candidates. Last week, we held tele-townhalls for Martha McSally in Arizona and Dan Sullivan in Alaska. Plus, weve got hard-hitting get out the vote online advertising, mail and radio running in support of our candidates. But thats not all. While the Allen West Guardian Fund has endorsed 14 candidates in 2014, we wanted to share with you 12 other Federal races to keep an eye on. Theres a new crop of conservative veteran and minority candidates, and they have a strong chance to bring change to Washington D.C. These men and women are precisely what our nation needs in positions of leadership. They bring fresh, new veteran and minority voices to the national debate, but most importantly they stand steadfast for our constitutional principles of a strong national defense, unfettered free market and a government controlled by the people - not the other way around. So for this edition of the Situation Report, I wanted to personally introduce these great patriots to you. Mike has an extensive and dedicated tradition of public service beginning with his enlistment in the U.S. Marine Corps right after high school. He served as an electronic specialist and radar repairman – receiving an honorable discharge as a Corporal E-4 in 1982. Mike served as a firefighter for the Murphysboro Fire Department, both part and full time – steadfastly answering the call of duty to protect families by answering hundreds of emergency calls and fighting a number of fires. Brian Babin TX-36 babinforcongress Dr. Babin served as an airborne artilleryman in the U.S. Army Reserve and in the Texas Army National Guard and held various jobs to put himself through school including: merchant seaman, janitor, musician, and U.S. Post Office letter carrier. Following his graduation from dental school, he served in the United States Air Force and was stationed overseas. Since 1999, Dr. Babin has served on the Lower Neches Valley Authority, appointed by then-Gov. Bush and reappointed by Gov. Perry. He has also previously served on the Texas State Historical Commission and the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners. In addition, he has served on the Deep East Texas Council of Governments. Paul Chabot CA-31 paulchabot Dr. Paul Chabot is the President of Chabot Strategies, L.L.C. He is an Iraq War veteran who began his reserve military intelligence career in 2001, serving first at the Office of Naval Intelligence. Later, he worked with the Defense Intelligence Agency, in conjunction with an assignment in the Pentagon working for the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the National Military Command Center, where he identified and assessed immediate national security threats. In 2008, Paul returned from Iraq where he served as an intelligence officer with Joint Special Operations Forces. Today, he serves as the Department Head for Command Pacific Fleet Intelligence Reserve Unit – 0194 at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He is a fully qualified Information Dominance Warfare Officer with Top Secret/SCI clearance. Vince Coakley NC-12 coakleyforcongress Vince Coakley is a former broadcast television journalist, anchor, and radio host in Charlotte, North Carolina. Vince worked in the radio news and television news industry in Lexington, KY before moving to Charlotte, NC. Dedicated to his trade, Vince worked his way up from news reporter to weekend anchor, to weekday anchor, and ultimately became lead anchor at Charlottes WSOC TV – Charlottes #1 television news station. Garry Cobb NJ-1 garrycobb From his youth, Garry excelled as both a student and as an athlete, and was recruited to play football at University of Southern California, where he played as a linebacker for the Trojans for 4 years. After college Garry was drafted into an 11-year NFL career and played as a proud Philadelphia Eagle. Garry also played with Buddy Ryans feared 46-Defense, Jerome Brown, Seth Joiner, and Reggie White. After Garrys retirement from the NFL, he began a career as a sports radio announcer and commentator for the CBS-owned Sportsradio WIP, where he still participates in the Philadelphia Eagles post game show. During his tenure with CBS radio, Garry worked for eight years as a sports anchor and reporter for CBS-3 TV News. Chris Day NY-17 voteforday Chris completed his BA in Political Science – the first in his family to earn a four year degree. While at Yale, Chris was active in the Yale Political Union, helped organize the Army ROTC company for the southern tier of Connecticut (serving as its first cadet commander), and spent a month-long rotation with the 1-15 Artillery at Camp Hovey, South Korea. For his academic performance, military leadership, and community service, Chris was named a Distinguished Military Graduate. Upon graduation, Chris was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the US Army Infantry and stationed at Fort Benning. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan and was ultimately promoted to Captain. After leaving the Army, having earned 17 awards and decorations, to include the Bronze Star, Combat Infantrymans Badge, and Ranger Tab, Chris returned to Rockland County and earned his MBA from Columbia Business School, with a focus on Private Equity and Entrepreneurship. He now works in the private equity & venture capital industry (first part time and transitioning to full time as he completed his degree) at Selway Capital, a middle market investment firm currently focused on promising companies based in Israel, where he is presently a Vice President. Charles Djou HI-1 djou Charles Djou represented Hawaiis First Congressional District from 2010 to 2011. Charles is a Major in the U.S. Army Reserve. He is a combat veteran who served with the U.S. Army in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan during the surge of coalition forces in 2011-2012. Charles deployed with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Infantry Division at Forward Operating Base Pasab in Kandahar Province. Charles military decorations include the Combat Action Badge and the Army Commendation Medal. Micah Edmond VA-8 micahedmond Micahs life is a testament to the American dream, proving that anyone can succeed in America regardless of race, religion, or socio-economic status. From humble beginnings in Columbia, South Carolina Micah was adopted by a Jewish family at the end of high school and converted to Judaism. Understanding the value of education, Micah put himself through Williams College serving in the local Massachusetts Air National Guard and working campus jobs like washing dishes. Upon graduation Micah started a career on Wall Street, but felt a deeper call to public service. He joined the Marine Corps, was commissioned at Quantico, Virginia and after two overseas tours returned to Alexandria, Virginia to serve his last tour at the Pentagon. During his eight years in the Marine Corps, Micah served as aid-de-camp for two senior generals and speechwriter for the Commandant of the Marine Corps. After leaving the Marine Corps, Micah continued his public service as a senior staffer for multiple members of the House Armed Services Committee. As a congressional staffer he also served as President of the Congressional Jewish Staff Association. Marilinda Garcia NH-2 Marilindagarcia Marilinda has served as a New Hampshire State Representative since 2012. Born of an Italian-American mother and Spanish-American father, Marilinda has been published and/or featured in the Latino Futures, LATINO, Latino Leaders and Townhall magazines, as well as NBC and FoxNews Latino. Ms. Garcia has served as NE Regional Director for the National Foundation of Women Legislators, and on the Advisory Board of GOPAC Legislative Leaders, the Board of Hispanic Caucus Chairs, the Board of Directors for the Chairmans Leadership Forum, and on the Artistic Advisory Board for the Young Rescuers USA program, and the American Council of Young Political Leaders. She has also previously served on the National Advisory Board of Young Americans for Mitt Romney. Glo Smith FL-5 gloforcongress Growing up in the poorest part of Jacksonville, Glo was no stranger to poverty as a child. Before her mother remarried, their large family was living off a single mothers salary and was dependent upon government assistance. For years, Glos mother relied on government provisions and commodities to feed and care for her children. Regardless of the financial hardship, Glo was determined to succeed, was inspired to establish her career as a public servant. Glo obtained a Masters of Business Administration degree and launched a 30-year career in public service and entrepreneurship. As an entrepreneur, Glo started a small business. In an effort to help others succeed, she developed curriculum for the University of North Floridas Small Business Resource Center. Allen Weh NM-Senate allenweh Allen E. Weh is the Chief Executive Officer of CSI Aviation Inc., an international air support and aviation logistics company based in Albuquerque, New Mexico which he founded in 1979. Weh is a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve (Ret), who began his service as an enlisted Marine before being selected for OCS. He served two tours in Vietnam and with the British Royal Marines in Malaysia. Colonel Weh was recalled to active duty during the Persian Gulf War, for the U.S. expedition into Somalia, and to serve as Chief of Staff of Marine Forces Pacific prior to retiring in 1997. In 2003-04 he was recalled from the Retired List to serve in Iraq and given a key leadership role with the creation and organization of the new Iraqi Army. Colonel Weh is the recipient of the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars (one with V), three Purple Hearts and five Air Medals. In addition to these combat awards, he also received the Legion of Merit and two Meritorious Service medals. Larry Wilske CA-53 wilskeforcongress Larry enlisted in the Navy in 1983 and went on to serve on SEAL Teams SDV-1, Three and Seven. As the Command Master Chief of SEAL Team Seven, he oversaw hundreds of SEAL missions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Philippines and personally conducted dozens of others. He is the recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism in action, awarded for a tour of duty in which Larry served as Operations Chief of an international task force that deployed to Afghanistan immediately following the 9/11 attacks. After returning home from his final combat tour, Larry continued service to Naval Special Warfare as the Command Master Chief for the SEALs Logistics Support Command. He led over 500 personnel supporting the west coast SEAL teams and subsequently received the Meritorious Service Medal for leadership. For his final tour of duty, Larry was chosen as the first SEAL Master Chief to be stationed at the U.S. Naval War College and teach at the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy.
