SITUATION UPDATE 2 City Manager declares water emergency Voluntary, precautionary boil advisory issued Broken Arrow, Okla. (June 11, 2013) – The City of Broken Arrow has now issued a precautionary boil order effective immediately. Due to the main water line break in the water system and the potential for contamination as a result of this situation, the drinking water supplied by the City of Broken Arrow may be unsafe for human consumption. As a precaution, it is advised that the consumers of the this water system bring the water to full, rolling boil for at least one minute before consumption, food preparation, dish washing, tooth brushing, wound care and bathing infants who may ingest bath water. This advisory will remain in effect until further notice. Questions concerning this situation should be addressed to Stephanie Higgins, Director of Communications, at 918-259-2400, Ext. 5309. City crews are working expeditiously to repair the main water line break between Pryor and Broken Arrow’s water treatment facility. “We are gravely concerned about the impending shortage as the elevated storage towers are depleted,” said City Manager Thom Moton. “It is imperative that residents not draw water to store as this will accelerate the depletion of the water system. Crews are making progress in the repair. Currently, the damaged portion of the line has been removed and the new segment inserted. Staff estimates the repair should be completed in the next 2 to 3 hours. Once completed, additional time will be need to pump water from the water treatment facility to the water towers. The City of Broken Arrow will continue to monitor this situation and will communicate any changes as they develop. Broken Arrow Fire Department Fire department administration put measures in place this afternoon to ensure the safety of our residents. Staff mobilized additional units and identified areas within Tulsa and surrounding areas to attain water if needed. Mutual aid partners in outside the City of Broken Arrow were also contacted. Tulsa Fire Department, Coweta Fire Department, Oak Grove Fire Department and Rolling Hills Fire Department are on notice of the situation. The department also contacted area hospitals and nursing homes to advise of the situation.
