SITUATION UPDATE on Tuesday, July 9th 2013 The CPN-Maoist has formed five-member dialogue team under the leadership of its chairman Mohan Baidya to hold dilague with High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM) on Monday. Other four members of the committee are vice chairman CP Gajurel, general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal and two Secretaries Netra Bikram Chand and Dev Gurung. CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya and Vice-chairman CP Gajurel left for China on Monday night for five-day visit on the invitation of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid arrived in Kathmandu this morning for a day-long visit. Office of the Prime Minister, Secretary reported that 50 people died and 19 are still missing in the recent flood that occurred from June in 25 districts of the country. INFRASTRUCTURE OBSTRUCTIONS Ferry service has been halted at Arun River of Legwaghat of Dhankuta district and at Sunkohsi River in Ghurmi of Udayapur district due to the increase in water level after heavy rainfall. Due to continue rainfall in eastern region, since last night, road diversion in Padajunge, Jhapa (approx. 5 KM to the east of Damak Bazaar) along East-West Highway has been destroyed. Hundreds of vehicles and motorbikes have been left stranded on both sides of the diversion as of this hrs. Mathillo Dungeshwor- Tallo Dungeshwor road section in Dailekh has been obstructed due to landslide. Dadeldhura-Darchula road sector has been obstructed in various places including Pasti to Dhap and Dattu to Khalanga-DHQ due to poor road condition. Road obstruction at Barju Khola of Bajura district along Sanfebagar - Martadi road section due to flooded river following rainfall since 18th June 2013. ONGOING Kavre, Araniko Struggle Committee has announced to carry out demonstration with black flag and torch rally in the major areas against the government’s decision to demolish houses built on the highway without giving any compensation to the owners. The committee has also wanted to halt transportation if their demands are not met by 20th July.
