SIX MONTHS TO GO!!! Hi everyone. Yes, exactly six months tonight the very popular Isle of Man Easter Festival of Running begins! Entries are now open via the official website easterfestival.info. The online entry system will be available shortly, as will the team/club entry form. The Festival is now well over 50 years old and has enjoyed a great resurgence in recent times. Competitor numbers in 2014 were the highest seen since the 1980s with a total of 884 competitors across the three events. We hope to see even more of you in 2015. We welcome athletes of all standards. In recent times we have seen lots of newcomers from local fitness groups using the Festival as their first experience of ‘proper’ racing. We have also had Olympic athletes competing. What sets the Festival apart is the number of visiting athletes who take part every year. Many university teams and other running clubs come over to the island every Easter, and create a great atmosphere with their bright colours and traditional war-cries at the start of each race. Several wear fancy dress, especially on Peel Hill on the Saturday. They also ensure that the weekend is a mixture of very competitive racing and equally competitive social activities! There are three events, and the format is the same as in recent years. On Good Friday 3rd April the 10k road race round the streets of Port Erin and Port St Mary in the south of the island starts at 6.45pm. On Saturday 4th April the action moves to Peel in the west of the island with the hill races. The 4 mile men’s race is at 2.15pm, followed by the 3 mile women’s race at 3.05pm. Then on the morning of Sunday 5th April the action is completed on Douglas Promenade with the 5k women’s road race at 10.15am followed by the men’s 4x5k road relay at 10.50am. The prize presentation on Sunday evening includes the famous beer races, which for some is the big highlight of the weekend! Much more information and plenty of features will follow at regular intervals both here and on the official website over the next six months - please bookmark both sites and check back regularly. To mark the six-month countdown to the 2015 Festival and to show what the event is all about, I have put together a short highlights video of the 2014 event for you to enjoy. See you next Easter!
