SJPG EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: JOB TITLE: Data Entry Clerk DEPARTMENT: Finance REPORTS TO: Director of Human Resources SALARY RANGE: $11.00-$15.00 per hour ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes any combination of the following illustrative examples of duties and responsibilities including but not limited to: • Maintains cash management records, including funds drawn and received, funds disbursed by sources, deposits of funds, issuance of refunds, and classifies revenue as to sources of funding and expenditure as to their nature • Classifies, codes, and posts various information and data into computerized accounting system • Prepares deposit documents for daily cash receipts, and may make delivery to the appropriate bank • Assists other co-workers as necessary. Performs duties of co-workers in their absence • Compiles and sorts documents, such as invoices and checks, substantiating business transactions. Files completed transaction documents in appropriate vendor files • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting Parish transactions • Records, maintains, checks and balances time cards, and salary and deduction changes through payroll for accurate calculation of employee pay • Compiles time worked from time cards or records and calculates pay including standard deductions and taxes • Prepares data for input into the automated payroll system • Prepares reports by computing and compiling figures • Counts, balances and distributes payroll checks • Uses a personal computer, calculator, typewriter, and check printer to create and produce required reports and documents • Performs other related duties as assigned QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school graduate or its equivalent, with courses in bookkeeping and accounting. Certificate from an accredited business or trade school with ability to type 70 wpm accurately is preferred. At least 3 years clerical experience in bookkeeping or accounting involving advanced record keeping or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Working knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic, office practices and procedures, and departmental rules and regulations • Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing • Working knowledge of bookkeeping theories and practices. Ability to prepare financial records in a systematic, neat legible manner • Must have a working knowledge of accounting computer software, and have the ability to interpret and analyze financial reports • Must have working knowledge of a personal computer and all other standard office equipment/machinery. Must have knowledge in basic record keeping in the maintenance of departmental filing system • Ability to perform assignments with minimal supervision and under tight deadlines • May assist in training new employees and must be willing to work overtime on occasion • Must be willing to attend occasional meetings and seminars outside of the office • Position requires a high degree of confidentiality due to the privileged and confidential nature of the information processed by the department How to Apply: St. James Parish applications/resumes will be accepted until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2015.
