SJts World : The Hostages Ep18 aprilstarr Hostages -an ancient method to force or coerce parties to an agreement or prevent them from doing certain actions. The meaning of word has since been expanded. In Inspiring Generation they were both used overtly by Aoki and covertly by the Hwangbang and Ill Gook Hwae. Jung Taes was a knee jerk reaction in this episode -run to the rescue of lady love! even if it meant scaling the walls of the intelligence (ala spiderman) building and with the high potential of getting shot. In the heat of the moment he didnt think it could be a trap set by Aoki. Of course it was. Even with Aoki backed up by his military force, Jung Tae with only his determination, fists and kicks and two standbys with superior skills, the latter won. Aoki was ready to have him shot if not for the timely intervention (diversion tactic of a fire) by Gaya. The wanted man, Jung Te, dead or alive preferably alive and serving the Hwangbang went to see the old man regarding Ok Ryeon. Of course no pressure there with the option of being able to take Ok Ryeon away if he can protect her which we know Hwangbang can easily create an unfriendly situation. The second time Jung Te went there regarding the killings at Bangsamtong only to hear from him being offered the Club ownership and how to eliminate Jae Hwa to get it. Gaya is a major hostage with a back story unfolded in several episodes -the death of her parents. Ill Gook Hwae promised her she would know the truth and can do revenge if she stayed with them. Now that she finally knew who instigated the crime, the very life of Shin Jung Tae is being used to keep her in line as her actions has been all these times protective of him. Ok Ryeon is a hostage by taking her as a form of protective custody while dangling in her face the danger to Shin Jung Taes life. If she doesnt agree the threat was sweetened by making her a singer in the Hwangbangs clubs. Even with Jung Taes decision of running away, she insisted on going back for her singing career. Is it a case of Helsinki syndrome -where the perceived benefits (singing career, bigger earnings) outweighed the harm? Or was she really scared something dreadful can happen to Jung Tae since as refugees they have nowhere to go? Jung Jae Hwa is another hostage to the monetary demands of Hwangbang or else lose the Club. Little did he know the old man Seol Doo has not only already offered his position to Jung Tae but also to kill him. The pretext of the Rub Out was he couldnt protect his community when the real reason was he refused to sell opium. Leader Mo had become a hostage with the threat his family members will be killed if he doesnt defeat Jung Tae and agree to the other demands of the Hwangbang. The Bangsamtong community had all became hostages because Jae Hwa refused the biddings of Seol Doo to sell opium. They were subject to killing and being wounded by hired men. Our major hostages are not going to sit pretty with all the threats around them. They are plotting some strategies on how to strike back. Well, well, well we have 6 episodes to go to do that. Team Jae Hwa turned Mission impossible Team ? But the Ill Gook Hwaes Denkai is also coming to Shanghia. Aoki still cannot be retired -have some pre war takeover mopping operations to do.
