SKIPPER ANNOUNCES “NEW LOOK” FOR THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE This morning, Sheriff John Skipper held a press conference at the Law Enforcement Center to announce a “new look” for his office. For the month of November, he will temporarily suspend one of his agency’s General Orders in order to raise funds for the Cancer Association of Anderson. Beginning, Saturday November 1, Sheriff’s Office employees will be allowed to grow beards and mustaches for the next 30 days. However, in order to participate, they must donate at least $20.00 to the Cancer Association and sign a “No Shave November” pledge which indicates that they will keep their new facial hair presentable and neatly groomed for court appearances. So far, 38 employees have taken the pledge. CID Lieutenant Wayne Mills who is taking part in the event stated, “I like the idea of helping raise money for cancer. I can’t think of anybody I know whose family has not been affected and if a little ‘chins for charity’ helps out then I’m all for it.” Employees who cannot or do not wish to participate in the event are still encouraged to donate. Per Sheriff Skipper, “This is a good, fun way for us to support a very worthwhile cause. Just like any organization who employees a lot of people, our staff has been affected by this terrible disease. All of us should do what we can in order to support organizations like the Cancer Association of Anderson and those seeking to find a cure.” Sheriff Skipper took the pledge himself this morning and donated a hundred dollars in cash. The press conference was also attended by the Cancer Association’s Executive Director, Kristin Williams. Ms. Williams indicated that the association is a non-profit organization which assists Anderson County cancer patients, and cancer survivors and their families with financial aid, emotional support, information and referral to available resources. “I would like to thank the Sheriff for his support”, stated Williams. She added, “These donations stay in Anderson County to assist our local cancer patients. Other organizations who would also like to participate are welcome to contact me at (864) 222-3500 or via email at [email protected]. We need all the help we can get!” Photo Courtesy of Zephaniah Smith – Brown Dot Photography
