SKM slams mass transfer Gangtok, Aug. 12: The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha today said the mass transfer of over 100 government employees and police officers was part of the SDF administration’s political victimisation and threatened to hit the streets if the order was not withdrawn. A senior state official said the transfer was part of the government’s routine business. Those transferred by the department of personnel included 55 Sikkim civil service officers, 54 engineers and 13 deputy superintendents of police. “This kind of mass transfer of officials just after the elections is a clear indication of political victimisation. We want to ask the government why there was a need for the mass transfer. We want the government to cancel the transfer, or else, we shall protest. We had never witnessed the transfer of such a large number of officers before,” said the press and publicity in charge of the SKM, Bikash Basnet. An official in the department of personnel said the transfer had been effected according to government rules. “Transfer is part of the government’s routine business. There are rules which govern the transfer of employees and they have to obey the government order,” he said. TT
