SLASHING... recently there have been a number of fire incidents, throughout the Region, which have started when people are slashing. As we move into the summer months grass is already drying out, which means fires can start and spread quickly. What we need people to do; • Check the Fire Danger Rating (FDR) for the day. • Ensure that there isn’t a Harvest and Vehicle Movement ban (through ABC radio, DFES and local government websites). • Slash either early in the morning (before 10am) or in the afternoon (after 3pm), avoiding the heat of the day. • Make sure the machinery is in good condition. • Monitor the machinery doesn’t get too hot and isn’t causing sparks. • Ensure you have water readily available Thank you for your kind attention and feel free to spread the word - there are high temperatures forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
