SLEEP QUESTION OK I have a question. So far we have been blessed - TopicsExpress

SLEEP QUESTION OK I have a question. So far we have been blessed with a baby that might only wake once a night now at 7 months, and will mostly play for a bit and then sleep again herself without help (rest assured though, she was not always like this!! She just thankfully grew into it somehow!!). But assuming I get given a baby who does *not* do this next time, or she changes and begins to wake frequently, at what point is it "permissable" (for lack of a better term!!) to do some kind of sleep help (rather than training per se): I doubt I would be able to function if I had a baby waking hourly for months, or one that was up for hours and hours during the night, or one that did not regularly sleep longer than 3 hour blocks. I am talking more beyond 6 months old. What happens if you, as a parent, are really *NOT* coping with multiple and extended night wakings- if you are only getting 2-3 hours sleep a night, suffering from sleep deprivation? At what point do you turn around and say "enough is enough, everyone is exhausted and depressed"- and, most importantly, how do you do it without resorting to timed crying episodes? Has anyone ever had this happen, and what have you done about it that is in line with the Evolutionary Parenting style that had successful results? If anyone has links to research papers regarding this, also feel free to share! Thanks!
