SLPP WANTS PEACE AND DESERVES PEACE…SAYS MAADA BIO By: Josephine Koroma (Iron Lady) The 2012 Flag-bearer of the Sierra Leone People’s Party, Julius Maada Bio has written in a letter to Mr Andrew Keilie and Mr. John Benjamin that the SLPP wants peace and deserves it and that they have an obligation to support the emerging initiative. Julius Maada Bio wrote the letter on the 8th December 2014 to invite Mr. Andrew Keilie and Mr. John O. Benjamin to a peace and dialogue meetings in London which were held on Saturday 13th December 2014 and Tuesday 16th December 2014. Julius Maada Bio has been praised by many SLPP supporters in Sierra Leone for his peace initiative to unite SLPP stakeholders. According to one Fatmata Kamara who is an SLPP member and lives in the Eastend of Freetown “This is the type of Leadership we expect from Maada Bio and that is why we the grassroot members are solidly behind him to unite the party to State House”. Another SLPP member, Abdul Swaray, who is a university student said “This peace initiative by Julius Maada Bio must be embraced by all flagbearer candidates because all we need is peace and unity. Abdul went on I am really happy for this peace initiative by JMB because it rubbishes any nonsense propaganda that Maada Bio is divisive. This initiative shows he is peaceful and he will unite the party and the country as our President. An SLPP petty trader, Sidikie Koroma, reacted to the peace initiative “we don suffer pass mark from this APC 444 and we for do everything for remove dis hopeless regime from power through the ballot box so mek God bless Maada Bio” Below is the letter written by Julius Maada Bio to Mr. Andrew Keilie and Mr. John Benjamin which was published on the 19th December 2014 by the Julius Maada Bio Media and Communication Team: Dear Mr. Keilli, It was great meeting you again at the dinner and dance organized by the young generation of our party – the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). I came out of the function convinced more than ever before that our membership is eager to see peace reign once more. We cannot continue to ignore the willingness of the SLPP members to do whatever it takes for peace to return. That every member present was anxious to bring us together stands out very glaringly as the highlight of that occasion. Although it was meant to be a fund-raising event, they could not resist the opportunity our presence presented them, to at least, get us together for a peace photo. These pictures, now called the ‘’peace photos’’ have gone viral on social media creating the impression that peace has returned once more to SLPP. Judging from this event, the SLPP wants peace, and deserves it, and I think we have an obligation to support this emerging initiative and the time is now. On the heels of this development, and in the interest of SLPP and the progress of our country, I take this opportunity to invite you and Mr. Benjamin to Bradford for a day-long reflection and to initiate dialogue for peace in the party. I will be most grateful if you can favourably consider this invitation to Bradford. Since this was not part of your planned visit to the United Kingdom, I have gone ahead to make arrangements for transportation, lodging and feeding. Should you accept this invitation, I suggest the following dates for your consideration: Monday 15, 2014 or Wednesday the 17, 2014. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. Best wishes Julius M Bio Senior Research Fellow John & Elnoral Ferguson Centre for African Studies (JEFCAS) University of Bradford
