SLU: Press Release: Hospital Chapel Policy Change: The horizon health board dealt with the controversial issue of hospital Chapels, including the Miramichi hospital Chapel. The board was presented with a proposed Policy which would designate hospital Chapels as mult-faith , with no new symbols specific to any one faith, including Christianity, to be permanently affixed. A motion was made by Miramichi board members John McKay and Mike Coster that the new policy contain a specific provision that would guarantee the permanent status of the cross currently in place at the Miramichi chapel. The board did NOT accept the recommendation and the motion regarding the cross was defeated. After declining a request from board member McKay that the public be consulted before A final decision is made, but the board proceeded to the immediate approval of the new policy. McKay was the only board member to vote No to the new chapel policy. Several members of the christian community attended meeting and voiced to the board their concerns about the new policy.
