SMA STRONG #SMAAWARENESS Todays post is a two part post. I will share the close connection between celebrations and sorrow and how together we can come through both stronger - SMA STRONG. Robert Scott and Denise West lost their beautiful Sofia on March 20, 2014, she was 2 years 8 months old. Their hearts have been broken and all their dreams of Sofias future disappeared in an instant. Sofia had not been sick or having any difficulties, she just suddenly choked and as much as they tried they could not clear her airway* (See below for an SMA FACT) Even when many would shut down or run away because the pain is too much to bear, Bob and Denise did not, they continued to support other SMA families, fight SMA for their children and have been amazing friends to me. They recently took a trip to visit other SMA families and joined a walk in honor of Sofia. One of the families they visited was the wonderful Hunt Family. I am sure you have seen their beautiful SMA Warrior Ella from posts on my page. When I saw the pics of Bob and Denises visit with Ella my heart felt happiness for them, because I could see how, even though Ella could not talk to them and tell them they are loved and everything would be okay, her spirit woke up a feeling they have not felt in many months, happiness, and the soft, gentle touch of Gods special gift. It made me see that even when you think your heart is so broken it will never feel anything but ache, one of the pieces connects to something, like the smile from a little girl, that cant run to you or throw her arms around you, but can bring your heart hope through her wise eyes and give them a reason to celebrate again. TODAY IS A DAY FOR THAT CELEBRATION, TODAY WE ALL JOIN TOGETHER AND CELEBRATE ELLAS 3rd BIRTHDAY!!!** (SMA Fact #2) HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY ELLA!!! YOU ARE SUCH A BLESSING TO THIS WORLD!!! Please send your birthday wishes to Ella and continue your prayers for her, she has been in the hospital for over a week having difficulties breathing due to her allergies. She is getting stronger everyday and despite being in the hospital Ella and her family are staying happy and positive, they are just thankful they can celebrate Ellas 3 birthday no matter where they are. Not if you have SMA, SMA causes you to lose the ability to swallow and cough, putting us at high risk or choking and or aspiration. **SMA Fact: Without medical intervention 90% of SMA Type 1 children usually die before their second birthday.
