SMILES IN FIGHTING SPIRIT: Tan Bah Bah, in the three decades of journalism Ive known him, has always made his mark, be it in witty writing or socialising with contemporaries or colleagues, as an outstanding newshound. Hes ever willing to take on any writing or editing assignments and ranks as a remarkably versatile journalist. Today, as he fights a very tricky dialysis-gone-wrong condition in the intensive aftercare unit at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), with his swollen hands and legs showing signs of great strain, if not pain, the unmistakable smiles remain a trademark in fighting spirit. He greets an unending streak of visitors, from dawn to dusk, with the bravest smiles Ive ever seen and his gutsy personal spirit is just extraordinary. These photos, taken mid-Sunday morning, say it all of how personal belief and fighting spirit, and prayers, have inspired him to make the very best of 1,440 minutes every day...and to offer his trademark smiles to everyone, from doctors, nurses, family members, friends and visitors. I really pray and wish you well, Bah Bah, I can imagine the unmistakable pain youre going through in a mysterious medical dialysis predicament, which has even stumbled the doctors. Just keep fighting and be at your best, and God-willing, you will join us for the unprecedented New Nation (NN) Reunion in February 2015.
