SNAP-NC RESCUES !!! Many folks dont realize that the staff at SNAP-NC rescue MANY animals from shelters and roadsides! One such rescue is April, a Beagle that Dr. Bartfield found on the side of a country road. April was emaciated and blind. Dr. B. brought her home and determined that what we thought was a pregnancy was a huge tumor in her abdomen. And, her blindness was the result of glaucoma that had gone untreated. Aprils condition led several other vets to recommend euthanasia, but Dr. B was not deterred. SNAP staff including vet asst. Carrie, took April to surgery on a Saturday - their day off. A 4.5# benign tumor was removed from her belly and April recovered like it was a walk in the park. A few weeks later, to relieve her constant eye pain, we were forced to remove both of her eyes. But, April marched on and never looked back! She became a very special part of Dr. Bs life as April recovered in her home, never asking for more than a kind word. You should have seen her make her way around Dr. Bs farm. Today, April has been adopted by a volunteer from Saving Grace Rescue. Below is a photo of April with another SNAP rescue, Josie. Josie was found in a rural shelter after being hit by a car. Josie required an amputation of a front imb and she too, no longer has any eyes! You cant tell those girls that they are handicapped! (The little grey kitten is another SNAP rescue as is the torti cat...who has only 3 legs!). While we may use the physical SNAP mobile hospital for surgeries, all of the rescue work that we do comes from our hearts and our personal pockets.
