SNOW SQUALL WARNING 7:47 PM EST Tuesday 06 January 2015Snow squall warning in effect for: • Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake • Innisfil- Angus - New Tecumseth • Snow squalls continue in a westerly flow of very cold arctic air over the Great Lakes. Local snowfall rates of 10 to 15 cm per 12 hours are likely in the strongest snow squalls.The snow squalls will start drifting to the south tonight. This will end the threat of snow squalls for areas to the east of Georgian Bay. However, the threat will continue for areas east of Lake Huron through Wednesday. Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably, changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Travel is expected to be extremely hazardous due to reduced visibility. Road closures are possible.Snow Squall Warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required, so stay tuned to your local media or Weatheradio. SNOW SQUALL WATCH 7:47 PM EST Tuesday 06 January 2015Snow squall watch in effect for: • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale Westerly winds continue to generate snow squalls for areas east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. A cold front will pass through southern Ontario tonight bringing even colder conditions and northwest winds. These northwest winds will cause the snow squalls to shift to areas southeast of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay starting tonight and continuing through the day on Wednesday.For areas such as London, Strathroy and St. Thomas, the greatest threat for snow squalls will begin Wednesday morning and persist throughout the day.Snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 cm per 12 hours are likely under the heaviest snow squalls, especially if the squalls lock in place. In addition, gusty northwest winds will result in very poor visibility due to blowing snow. EXTREME COLD WARNING 3:11 PM EST Tuesday 06 January 2015Extreme Cold Warning in effect for: • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale • Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake • Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago A period of very cold wind chills is expected.A cold front will cross Southern Ontario tonight and Wednesday morning. Very cold temperatures in the wake of this front, combined with strong northerly winds, will result in wind chill values near or below minus 30 Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night.
