SNOWY OUTLOOK FOR REST OF JULY Good evening everyone Today was mostly fine and calm around our region with light winds, Christchurch was the warmest of the main centres hitting 16 degrees. Tonight conditions go down hill with rain and strong cold southerlies which ease to showers early morning. Snow will affect higher roads, Porters Pass and Arthurs can expect 10-15cm so take care if travelling in these areas. Tomorrow/Monday: Expect showers from South Canterbury up to Christchurch to clear during the morning which then clear into the afternoon elsewhere. Cold Southwesters ease throughout come evening. Highs only reaching a chilly 7-10 degrees. Tuesday: A fine frosty day awaits with light winds, cold Southerlies will develop at night though. Highs of 8-11 degrees are expected. Wednesday: A very cold day is on the cards bringing a few sleety showers or hail but most of the shower activity should fall from about Christchurch northwards so areas south of Mid Canterbury might escape with a mostly fine crisp day. Snow levels look to be around 200-300m about coastal areas. Cold Southwesters continue keeping temperatures in single figures, 7-9 degrees for Canterbury. Thursday/Friday: Mostly fine conditions are expected with morning frosts and light winds, there is a chance of a few isolated showers at times, highs of 9-11 degrees. Outlook: On current long range models the rest of July looks very cold with snow possible to low levels at times starting at the end of next weekend, so some good news for our ski fields who are looking for their first real big dump of the season.
