SNUBBED BY THE ACADEMY: 1999 Although 1994s a close second, The year 1999 is from my perspective the greatest year of all time for films. I mean look at all of the masterpieces that were distributed during this time: Fight Club, Toy Story 2, The Iron Giant, The Matrix, Tarzan, The Insider, The Sixth Sense, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, Being John Malkovich, The Green Mile, Magnolia, Boys Dont Cry... Good God this was like heaven for us film enthusiasts. My #1 Film of 1999 was hands down Fight Club, one of the greatest movies ever made! This presented not only Brad Pitts Best Performance, but his best film of his career. Fight Club was unlike anything youve ever seen before and was revolutionary in its storytelling, stylish presentation and overall appeal towards its theme. My close Runners-Up were The Green Mile (One of my personal Favorite Films of All Time), The Iron Giant (My #3 Best Animated Film of All Time), Toy Story 2, The Sixth Sense and The Matrix. Whats so controversial about this year and the Oscars? Two words... American Beauty! Along with A History of Violence, I agree with John Campea on this particular film. American Beauty ranks as my #2 Most Overrated Film of All-Time. Im sorry but I seriously will never understand the majority of all the awards it won and the overall praise it received. Im not saying the film is 100% dogsh*t, but it isnt good by all means. I have seen this film multiple times to examine it and the overall results were the same: Mediocre, Extremely Boring, One-Dimensional and Annoying Characters, Musical Score made my ears bleed, etc. The two phenomenal credentials I took from seeing this film countless times were Kevin Spaceys masterful performance and the last 10-15 minutes of the film. The Oscars felt different otherwise by awarding American Beauty as the Best Motion Picture of 1999 and Sam Mendes as Best Director. WAIT WHAT?! Theyre telling me that this is better than the Sixth Sense and especially The Green Mile?!?! What makes it even worse is that these pompous asses are telling me its better than Fight Club because them old diaper wearing sh*t for brains wouldnt give any credentials towards a film like this. The films I listed as the best for 1999 were revolutionary, timeless, unforgettable, game changers, exquisite and most important... ENTERTAINING! Oh and to add another thing that pisses me off about the Academy for this year is the Supporting Actor snub from Michael Clarke Duncan for The Green Mile. Like the Academy always does and have been to this day, they always go by what they believe is relevant for the time and not what will be remember for year and years to come. You mention Duncans name and EVERYONE will know who he played and from what film. Duncan as John Coffey was an unforgettable, emotional and tear-jerking performance you will always keep from the bottom of your heart. Oscars obviously dont think so because they shown their true colors that year. Coming up on the next SNUBBED BY THE ACADEMY is my #1 Biggest Snub in Motion Picture History. I thought this one was bad for me, Im going to need some strong anesthesia or some of that nitric oxide gas just to calm down in general for this one.
