SO HERES THE STORY: I took my Dolly Delana Gay to a book signing by DIANE KEATON of her book, California Romantica, at an antique shop in Pasadena, California, on the night of 12/12/09. As I was in line with Delana, I hatched a scheme to propose, and put a Post It note inside the sleve of the book. When we were in front of Diane Keaton, first she said I like your hat. Then, she started to read the post it aloud saying would you like to... and looked up at me and said , is this for real? The rest of the note said ...help me with a wedding proposal right now? I looked right at her and said yes it is. And then she did this little thing I have seen her do in movies, kind of tuck down and fold her hands, then looked up straight at me and asked, what would you like me to do? Imagine that, Diane Keaton, waiting for direction from James Ross!! I turned my body to block Delanas view, handed her the wedding ring box in a little designer bag, and said to Diane give this to her! Diane then turned to Delana (who, as she says, got panicy thinking I was going to sing Sinatra, but knew that was a ring box, and didnt know what to think!!), and Diane said well this is a lovely gift, but (and looks up straight at Delana and said) I think this belongs to you!! and hands the ring box to Delana! At that moment, Delana broke out into shear excitement, a mixture of tears of joy & giddy laughter!!!!! I tried to go down on one knee, but she lifted all 62/ 215 lbs of me right off the ground!!!! (she has been a massage therapist for 18 years). Diane had gone from a solemn look when we first got there, to an ear to ear smile!!!! All the people in line started cheering & applauding and shouting show us the ring!!!! So I told her to and she waved it above her head as we kissed!! I tried to propose, but all I could say was will you ma.. and couldnt finish because she was profusely kissing me!!!! We have a series of pictures by the manager, which captured all of this, and I would like to share it. As we sat down to RECOVER, all the people one by one congratulated us after they finished their visit with Diane!. When it was all over, Diane graciously consented to having this picture taken with her, and we spent some precious time in a private chatt with her!! After that, we went to Taylors Steak House in La Canada Flintridge. We didnt have a reservation, as I had made up the whole evening on a whim! We were sharing this experience with a couple in the lobby, and they called to the materadee and said give them our table, which happened to be the best private booth, in a little wine cellar, which overlooked the restaurant!! As we stood up and slow danced, everybody was looking at us and I said show them the ring, which she did, and they all applauded!! When we talked with the manager of the antique store a week later about that night, she said: Diane couldnt stop talking about you guys, and she went off to a big party in Hollywood, and probably was still talking about you!!!!
