SO WHY DO WE HAVE ALL THIS POLARIZATION IN POLITICS? Yes, of course, a lot of it has its roots in Newt Gingrichs speakership, his cassette tapes sent to freshman republicans on how to use inflammatory language when talking about Democrats. Cutting the work week short and requiring young congressmen to head home to their constituency, thereby, not being around for social functions.....so as not to form friendships with the enemy. He also had rules against wives socializing with Democratic wives; in fact, he wanted them to stay back at home and not come to Washington.....HOWEVER; Newt still did manage to work with President Clinton on somethings, notably welfare reform. (Before they took over Congress, the TAX INCREASE which led to the balanced budget was passed inspite of every Republican voting against it....predicting economic catastrophe and depression!) THE CURRENT POLARIZATION IS A RESULT OF POLITICS IN VIRGINIA In the 90s Virginia was deep RED on the state level: however, due to a split in the Republican party, Mark Warner (D) was elected governor. He set about to work with Democrats and moderate Republicans to pass Tax Reform. While the reform lowered income tax, it raised other taxes and resulted in $1.5 billion in extra revenue.....which went to education, infrastructure, and social services. Warner became wildly popular(ranging from71% to 80% favorable) and as a result many Democratic Legislators were elected in 2003 and 2005. Also, Tim Kaine (D) was elected to follow Gov. Warner.....Virginia was turning Purple! ERIC CANTOR, WHO HAD BEEN IN THE VIRGINIA ASSEMBLY SAW THIS TAKE PLACE! By working with the Democrats for the betterment of the state, he saw the Democratic Leadership get credit and gain popularity. ON THE NIGHT OF PRES. OBAMAS INAUGURATION ERIC CANTOR, KARL ROVE, MITCH MC CONNEL, BOEHNER AND 11 LEADERS DECIDED THEY HAD TO TRY AND BLOCK EVERYTHING THIS YOUNG PRESIDENT WANTED.....NOT GIVING HIM ANY VICTORIES AND THEN BLAMING HIM FOR FAILING..... THUS WAS BORN THE PARTY OF NO Setting records for the most filibusters in the history of Congress......AND consecutive records in the house for getting the least done in history......so of course....ITS OBAMAS FAULT!
