SOAP Journal, Mark 5, Todd Henderson: As Jesus was getting into the boat, the demon-delivered man begged to go along, but he wouldn’t let him. Jesus said, “Go home to your own people. Tell them your story—what the Master did, how he had mercy on you.” The man went back and began to preach in the Ten Towns area about what Jesus had done for him. He was the talk of the town. (Mark 5:18-20 MSG) Observation- our calling is to be a witness, not a judge. We witness to what Jesus has, is, and will do in our lives. You tell them your story. Note: its easier and has least resistance to go away from your past, your place of failure, your hometown, your place where judgment and prejudice exist so strongly. But Jesus called the man to go right into that prejudice and stereotyping and people putting him in the box of that bad person and be His witness, to tell what Jesus has done. Application- My story and passion is to tell what Jesus has done in my life and not be defined by my past, my failures, or other peoples judgment of me. I will not run away from my story, but use it to glorify Jesus and help people get Jesus into the story of their life, which leads us home and to true life we were created for.
