SOAPing with Refuge Church John 11:1-16 This passage speaks of Jesus dear friend Lazarus... he was so dear to Jesus that he is even described as the one you love in v3 (wouldnt it be awesome to be known by others as the one Christ loves?!). Within this passage, Jesus quote within verse 4 stuck out to me greatest: “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” Did you catch that? Our world is often trying its best to define why bad things happen to good people. Many people cannot understand why a loving & gracious all-powerful God would ever allow anything troubling or difficult to come upon us... our culture is so drawn to the fast & easy life. As a parent of 2 young boys, there are times in their lives that I have to step back & allow them to go thru a hardship so that their life will be enriched & more rewarding. For instance, there are those days when they have to skin both their knees up to ultimately enjoy the feel of the wind going thru their hair as they take their first successful bike ride. In the case of this passage, Christ stayed away & allowed Lazarus to pass away for Gods glory to be shown thru the situation & for others to clearly identify Christ as God in the flesh. On those VERY stressful days when it seems like we have skinned both our knees, instead of being broken, frustrated, or distraught we need to look at our situation using Godly eyes & use it in such a way to bring Him true honor & glory.
