No doubt the next Sg GE 2016 will be a tight race, even as Sg oppo politicos and the electorate always forget that in the One Party Orwellian sg state it is always easier to nip oppo and alternative talents in the bud than in any other environments. Here on this page we have Prof Tan Chong Tee who himself voluntarily went into self-exile because intuitively he knew the PAP wont brook any dissent whatsoever from droves like him in his younger days. So even as the eager beavers and ready for battle Sg groundswell for change CHARGE on in full battle gear in self forgetting ecstasy, THERE EXIST WITH EVEN GREATER FORCE at various other levels and behind the scenes a motivation on the part of the ESTABLISHMENT, the WILL to flood the market with a full house of oppo candidates. Mindful of the Sg political culture, inherent native kiasuness and deep seated Confucian attitude, the PAP knows the electorate will repel at the idea of a complete change in the authority structure and political system. As usual Secret police and Agent provocateurs jobs have been to ensure real talents dont get to the electoral starting line. And they have been working like mad! All this is over and above the factors that kept the likes of Tan Chong Tee away. Promising academics who are interested in running the electoral race have been sporting scarcastic smiles that yet again the overwhelming mood for change would not get the talents it deserves. Ironically on the other hand, if the numbers are not controlled, excellent candidates would suffer the most as the electorate fear freak results that would rock the boat so much as to change the rulers. Besides wanting to dump the place with all manner of oppo candidates, the PAP does not have much else to rely on as a trump card, other than in the longer term the Approved WP remains amenable to perpetuate status quo and are firmly reluctant to embark on a 2 party system, come what may! Heaven sent for the PAP!
