SOC Our skin is hot as an oven, feverish from hunger… Lamentations 5:1-16 (NIV) 1 Remember, O LORD, what has happened to us; look, and see our disgrace. 2 Our inheritance has been turned over to aliens, our homes to foreigners. 3 We have become orphans and fatherless, our mothers like widows. 4 We must buy the water we drink; our wood can be had only at a price. 5 Those who pursue us are at our heels; we are weary and find no rest. 6 We submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread. 7 Our fathers sinned and are no more, and we bear their punishment. 8 Slaves rule over us, and there is none to free us from their hands. 9 We get our bread at the risk of our lives because of the sword in the desert. 10 Our skin is hot as an oven, feverish from hunger. 11 Women have been ravished in Zion, and virgins in the towns of Judah. 12 Princes have been hung up by their hands; elders are shown no respect. 13 Young men toil at the millstones; boys stagger under loads of wood. 14 The elders are gone from the city gate; the young men have stopped their music. 15 Joy is gone from our hearts; our dancing has turned to mourning. 16 The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned! Father Thank You for allowing our eyes to be opened at certain times of our lives if we will only see. It amazes me that so many people continue to look around them and blame this, that, or any other thing for the situation that they find themselves in instead of looking in a mirror and seeing the root of their issue, getting a tissue and crying out to the Lord, asking forgiveness then walking in “newness” of life in Him. The heat in our flesh has an answer if we will but seek it in God’s word and way. No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Cor. 10:13 Of course this only works if we seek our way in Him, not an answer for “do it yourselfers”, if you could do it yourself you wouldn’t find yourself on your knees before God and men. In this verse Jeremiah pleaded with the LORD to remember the sick and diseased (v.10). Apparently, epidemics of disease had broken out because of the debris and filth of the destroyed cities and the lack of pure food and water. In the aftermath of war, this lack, along with the inability to dispose of sewage, often causes the spread of disease. Many of the Jews were apparently facing death due to disease as well as starvation. The sick and the diseased needed the help of the LORD. So do we today and through every epoch of man, if we will but “truly” turn to Him. “That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man” (Eph. 3:16). “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (Eph. 3:20). “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19). “And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen” (2 Tim. 4:18). Lord thank for Your right answers in my life, not the answer that I want or the one I’d rather have, but Your right answer to walk in Your way. I pray you are marveling at God’s right answers in your life as you miss the minefields that those who walk apart from Christ around you continually find themselves in.
