SOC Sayings of the wise-do not make friends of a hot-tempered person… Proverbs 22:17-29 (NIV) 17 Pay attention and listen to the sayings of the wise; apply your heart to what I teach, 18 for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart and have all of them ready on your lips. 19 So that your trust may be in the LORD, I teach you today, even you. 20 Have I not written thirty sayings for you, sayings of counsel and knowledge, 21 teaching you true and reliable words, so that you can give sound answers to him who sent you? 22 Do not exploit the poor because they are poor and do not crush the needy in court, 23 for the LORD will take up their case and will plunder those who plunder them. 24 Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man, do not associate with one easily angered, 25 or you may learn his ways and get yourself ensnared. 26 Do not be a man who strikes hands in pledge or puts up security for debts; 27 if you lack the means to pay, your very bed will be snatched from under you. 28 Do not move an ancient boundary stone set up by your forefathers. 29 Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men. Father Thank You for giving us Your wise sayings throughout Proverbs and Your word, they can be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path if we but allow them to be. I think of the illustration of the man who had a wood pecker pecking on a post on his home who got up, yelled then picked up a large rock, chucking the rock at the bird, the rock sailed harmlessly by but did hit his windshield in front his house, hearing this he kicked and broke his foot on the concrete pad he chose to kick, therein lies the issues with hot-tempered people, I’ve seen them in every human configuration. Many of my clients as a probation officer asked me how they might get off of probation the quickest. I’d tell them that choosing wise companions could be a large part of this. Staying away from people who did and reacted rashly to situations was and is still a proven benefit, both for our future and our mental as well as physical health. The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He. Deuteronomy 32:4 The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all. Psalms 103:19 Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach-- if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister. Colossians 1:22-23 We are called to be a peculiar people unto the Lord, separate from those around us who follow after the world and the things thereof, let us continually strive to help each other as we ourselves seek to walk the wise walk that God desires of us. Lord thank You for giving us Your “truth” and wisdom through Your proverbs-“wise sayings”. If we would only allow You, Your word and truth to lead and guide us then we would surely have much less turmoil in the midst of our lives. I pray you are marveling at God’s wise sayings for life given to us in His Proverbs, let all who have ears, eyes and a heart for God hear and live in the manner to which He has set our faces towards Him.
