SOKOTO/DESERT As part of efforts to curb desert encroachment and other environmental problems, the Sokoto State government said at the weekend that it would establish 30 kilometers shelterbelt across the state. Governor Aliyu Wamakko, while flagging off the tree planting campaign organized by the state’s council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at Tsaro village in Gada Local Government Area of the state, said two 15-kilometers long shelterbelts would be created across the state The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Jabbi Kilgori, said the first 15-kilometers shelterbelt would be established in six frontline local government areas of the state.
