SOLID LIVING IN A SHATTERED WORLD Psalm 1 The Psalms opens by dispelling the idea that the sinful life is the good life. There is a daily deception that some sort of lasting satisfaction is found by indulging the lusts of the flesh. In the Psalms, the Holy Spirit sets the record straight! “Blessed” comes by a way of life lived in harmony with God. It is based on a totally focused life. A life that is centered in God as Jesus demanded. “Blessed” doesn’t just happen. If we have this kind of “Blessed”, it comes because we stay connected to the Grace that is God’s riches undeserved and unearned but not unwanted or unsought. This is the psalm that likely provided the Scriptural basis for the Sermon on the Mount that Jesus preached. Both this psalm and the Sermon on the Mount describe the attitude and actions which God’s ideal person should display. Both passages set forth the character, influence and conduct and the destiny of the ideal person. Now while this talks of a male person, it also applies to women and children. Rev. James E.
