SOMALIA: Al-Shabab attacks continue A vehicle-borne explosive device intercepted a UN convoy in Mogadishu on December 3, resulting in the deaths of at least six people and the injury of approximately 10 others. A second attack targeted AU troops, occurring not far from the fortified airport that houses the AU base, along with the United Nations, Italian Embassy, and British Embassy compounds. Extremist group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attacks, in addition to an attack on Tuesday that killed 36 people in northern Kenya. Comment: These attacks continue to be accompanied by warnings to outside forces, namely the African Union troops and their supporters, to leave Somali territory. There has been no official word from the government of Somalia as to how it intends to handle this situation.
