SOMALIA: Mogadishu Mayor rejects ministerial position Posted on January 18, 2014Somali News Maxamuud Axmed Nuur (Tarsan) Maxamuud Axmed Nuur (Tarsan) Mogadishu (RBC) The Mayor of Somalia Capital Mohamud Ahmed Tarsan has rejected a ministerial position a day after Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed unveiled his new cabinet on Friday, RBC Radio reports. In a press conference in Mogadishu, the Mayor of Mogadishu said that he was caught on surprise that he heard his name on the public TV announcing him as a new deputy minister of the country’s new council of ministers. “I heard my name on the TV late on Friday claiming that I was appointed as the Deputy Minister for Youth Sports of the new cabinet.” Tarsan said. “I was not aware of any of the process to nominate myself as a deputy minister.” he added. He acknowledged that the President and the Prime Minister wished him for the position but he said that he has given his resignation because he did not prefer such position. “I do not wish to hold such position as it came to lack of my knowledge. No one even consulted me with this nomination.” The Mayor of Mogadishu said. Tarsan has made clear that he does not even prefer if he is appointed as a minister at the current government. The unexpected nomination of Mr Tarsan came as a wide spread rumors said that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud should have appointed the Mayor of Mogadishu to a new person.
