SOME THOUGHTS on HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP: Drink a soda, eat ketchup, tank your energy! High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) depletes levels of liver adenosine triphosphate (ATP) which is involved in the ener...gy transfer between cells. HFCS also raises uric acid levels to cause hyperuricemia - associated with even more severe ATP depletion. Fructose is a simple sugar found in fruits and vegetables. High fructose corn syrup is found in a laboratory mixture of glucose and fructose and is used as a sweetener in processed food products. So what’s the big deal? The average fructose intake has increased from 15g a day 100 years ago to 55g in 1994. Still no big deal? This inordinate affair we have with sweets has brought an explosion in obesity and metabolic diseases like diabetes.:(
