SOME TOUGH MOMENTS IN LIFE The reason why I dropped Maths In secondary school, I was very poor at Chemistry and Physics and really struggled with Maths. During end of term mock exams, Id get between 2% and 8%. The Maths teacher used to announce the results starting with the lowest and ending with the highest marks, so I would always be the 1st or 2nd to be called out. One day, our Maths results were being released and my name wasnt among the obvious gang of zeros that were first to be called out. The teacher went on and got to 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, still my paper had not been called out. My blood pressure shot up and I began to experience short of breath because that was not my familiar territory. Everyone kept on looking at me asking, Guy, whats up? How did you take the math? And the teacher went on to the 80s! And when he got to 88%, there was one paper remaining. I then asked myself, Could I have scored a 90% in Maths? I was feeling very anxious and a ray of happiness pierced my heart now that I knew I had proved the so called genius wrong. Could I have gotten 88%? I thought my dreams had been answered...... The whole class was amazed as every one kept on looking at me in awesome admiration. It was unbelievable. I was the subject of attention. Finally, the teacher looked up and said, There is a stupid g-o-a-t that did not write its name on the paper and s-c-o-r-e-d a z-e-r-o %. If you have not received your paper come and get it now! Phew! Everyone looked at me. I remember more than 50 pairs of eyes focussed on me blinking like cameras on a celebrity. And then they burst into laughter. There was a deafening noise. They really enjoyed. Some jumped with excitement. Beads of sweat formed on my forehead and nose while rivers of sweat flooded my armpits. I tried to stand up but my knees jerked and I went blank. I passed out. I never attended a Maths class ever again.
