SOMETHING TO DO Sturday! Summer Saturdays at the Rancho: Mosaics & More Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum 18127 South Alameda Street Rancho Dominguez 310 603 0088 dominguezrancho.org Make your children’s Saturdays full of fun and learning this summer at the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum, where they get hands-on experiences while learning. Saturday, they can learn about mosaics and create their own mosaic using tiny tiles. Did you know the oldest known mosaics go back more than 4,000 years ago and were made of pebbles? Did you know in the ancient world, mosaics were used for floors and footpath? Did you know mosaics also kept walls protected from wind and water? This is what you can learn today! The Dominguez Adobe is California Historical Landmark Number 152 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior in 1976. The Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum hosts special events throughout the year and offers free tours of the Adobe to the public every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday of the month, and the first Thursday and Friday of the month at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. The mission of the Friends of Rancho San Pedro is to preserve and increase the awareness of early California history as it relates to the Dominguez family, homestead adobe and the Rancho San Pedro, the first Spanish land grant in California. This is accomplished through educational programs and the operation of the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum.
