SOMETHING TO PONDER… Cedar trees can grow between 40 to 200 feet tall. The roots, you can imagine are very deep and very thick. They are a very firm, non moving tree. you can prune it and shape it to your preference, but ultimately because of its size, it will continue to grow with or without your care. As I look up at a maple tree and a cedar tree that stands so firm and tall, I start to think about how deep and thick the roots must be. I also begin to ponder just how much the roots are imbedded into the earth’s surface. Because the roots are so deep and thick, they allow the tree to produce beautiful, green leaves. The stems are sturdy enough to hold a tire swing with a child swinging to and fro. I then started to relate the roots of a tree to the history and beliefs that the United States are firmly planted in. the branches which are growing from the tree are very sturdy. Life is sustained from them, but what kind of roots lie beneath? If we take a closer view of the tree, we’d find a lot of imperfections and in some cases dis-ease. No matter how much you prune the tree, the dis-eases and imperfections run deep…deep into the roots. You can try chopping the tree down, but until you destroy the roots, the dis-ease will remain. And I’m sure no one wants to destroy the stump…so it grows!
