SONG ON ZANU FACTIONALISM CLINGES POLE POSITION ON NATIONAL FM - TopicsExpress

SONG ON ZANU FACTIONALISM CLINGES POLE POSITION ON NATIONAL FM CHARTS A song composed by Energy Mutodi titled, Runyararo (peace) was yesterday voted best song of the year by National FM Radio listeners. The radio is the biggest in the country with at least 7 million listeners and cuts across all tribes as it broadcasts in at least four local languages. In the song, Energy Mutodi who is a Zimbabwean Businessman and also doubles as a musician and politician encouraged Zanu PF faction leaders to stop discriminating people on factional and regional grounds as that had a tendency to weaken the party. Instead, he urged them to promote peace and development. The song also urged President Mugabe to not give powers to individuals who were bent on rebelling against him to the extent of fighting those who elevated them to positions of authority and influence. Unoda kuva mutungamiri wakaita seiko? Tarisa nyika yakabvira kare kare ichikurudzira kubatana, Ko iwewe uchakwana papiko? Vamwe unovada, vamwe hauvadi iwe, Tarisa nyika yakabvira kare kare ichikurudzira runyararo, Ko iwewe uchakwana papiko? In apparent reference to President Mugabe, the musician sings: Varipo vakashinga moyo mukoma, Vachakuparadzira musha waenda, Uchenjerere mwana wamai, vanokuparadzira zita waenda, Gara wakaziva. The song which was released early in February 2014, came at the right time before ZANU PF factional fights intensified, culminating in the ouster of Vice President Joice Mujuru from both the partys Central Committee and government when she was fired from her number 2 post in December. Mujuru who was leading an essentially Zezuru faction angling to succeed President Mugabe struck a wrong code when she together with some power hungry colleagues sought to dethrone the President using unorthodox means among them an assassination. Her actions created the chance for former Justice Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa to be elevated to the position of Vice President due to his loyalty and humility over the years. This was notwithstanding the fact that Mnangagwa himself had been caught up in an unsanctioned campaign towards the Vice Presidency in 2004 which led to his loyalists being suspended from key party positions that year. In a statement, Mutodi who has proven to be the most talented music and lyrics composer in the post-Leonard Dembo era says he will continue to monitor political developments in ZANU PF and the whole political sphere with a view to advise leaders against self service and destructive decisions. Mutodi, ranked 4th among Zimbabwean young millionaires says that his calling is to express those sacred political oracles often regarded as no go areas by the ordinary social commentator yet are critical in shaping the future of the country. In the meantime, he has already indicated that an arrest of former Vice President Joice Mujuru will set the wrong precedence and could introduce a culture of disrespect to our leaders especially those whom the people would have elevated to the Presidium. He is therefore of the view that in the same manner Western countries such as the USA keep their former leaders away from prosecution for crimes committed while they were still in power, Zimbabweans can find ways of making former leaders answerable to their actions without necessarily handing them over to the judiciary. (Energy Mutodi is a doctoral research scholar in the field of Financial Markets and Economics. He completed his Masters in Business Administration Degree at the University of Zimbabwe. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography and War Studies from the same University as well as a Certificate in Defence Management from the Witwatersrand Post Graduate School of Management).
