SONGHEES NATION –Health JOB POSTING - part-time youth worker 1500D Admirals Road Victoria, BC V9A 2R1 Telephone: 250-386-7629 Fax: 250-386-4161 JOB POSTING Songhees Nation is seeking: part-time youth worker Reports to: Community Health Coordinator Term of Employment: 26 weeks Start Date: October 7, 2013 End Date: March 31, 2014 Hours: 12:30 – 6:00 p.m. Tuesdays & Thursdays May require additional time / days Hourly Wage: $12 -$18 per hour. Dependent on experience Goals of Youth Worker position: . Establish a strong connection with Songhees Youth and their community . Provide positive learning opportunities for youth in a variety of contexts . Organize and facilitate cultural learning opportunities . Provide resources and referrals to community resources for ongoing support . Organize and facilitate: pro-d day, spring break, and day camp activities . Provide opportunities for prevention / intervention programs and workshops . Work in partnership with Kwum Kwum lelum & Education team providing support to the tutoring program. Duties & Responsibilities Administration: . Provide a written monthly report of activities . Complete all documents necessary for participation; registration forms, waivers, permission forms, schedules etc. . Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with co-workers, outside agencies, and community at large. . Establish and maintain partnerships with community partners and services for youth Planning: . Plan and deliver programs . Coordinate and conduct youth drop in program, camps, and workshops . Promote cultural, learning and , recreational activities . Promote a safe environment for the youth to participate within and outside of the Songhees community. Leadership: . Build relationships, plan activities, provide mentoring, and develop leadership to youth . Build relationships with community and encourage volunteer support . Provide a safe environment for participating youth . Encourage mutual respect within the group and community . Maintain professional / personal boundaries and confidentiality Qualifications: . Completion of Grade 12 . Human Services Certificate / Diploma : (Child & Youth care, Family Support Worker) . Class 4 Drivers License OR willing and eligible to obtain within (1) month of Employment . 1 year relevant experience working with Aboriginal youth and communities at large . Experience preparing reports, forms and schedules . Experience in keyboarding, word processing, excel spreadsheets and other standard computer applications . First Aid certificate .
