SONS OF THE WIND is now playing as a sound and video installation at Palais de Tokyo in Paris, to mark the 50th anniversary of FRANCE CULTURE. The piece is composed with sounds collected during a 1-month journey along the banks of the Danube, from its delta in the Black Sea, through Ukraine, Moldavia, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and finally Germany, where the Danube has its source. We traveled by train or car from one Mahala - a Roma settlement - to another, in each of these countries; sought for some of the most talented and respected artists of Roma Gipsy music, lived with them and recorded their voice, their daily lives and more than everything else, their outstanding music. From Marin Sandu to Esma Redzepova, Jony Iliev, Emir Kusturica to the Horvath family, Harrj Stojka, Dotschy Reinhardt, ... we experienced a unique and forgotten walk of life, in the trace and spirit of the nomadic people that populated those regions for the past 1000 years, on the margin of the world that we know, where borders have never existed. A film by Stephan Crasneanscki Director of Photography Dasha Redkina Editor & Special Effects Teresa Pereira Text by Virginie Luc Sound by Soundwalk Collective A very special thanks to Helmut Neumann / Asphalt Tango
