The Sony Walkman CD Player utilizes an Automatic Volume Limiter System (AVLS) volume distortion reduction system. The AVLS function prevents the portable player from becoming excessively loud during CD or FM radio playback. AVLS volume reduction can be enabled or disabled at any time by pressing and holding the Sound/AVLS button. The Sony Walkman offers the following Menu Categories: (Language-English, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, or Russian, G-Protection-On or Off, Beep-On or Off, Tune Step-100 kHz or 50 kHz and Preset Clear-Clear?). All of my CDs sound fantastic on this Sony Walkman with clear vocals, detailed midrange and well-defined bass performance. The FM tuner receives my favorite music and news stations with accurate reception day or night. The FM Band channel step tuning can be changed back and forth between 100 kHz and 50 kHz to listen to FM broadcasts when traveling abroad. The default 100 KHz tuning interval can be used to tune in FM stations in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. The Sony Walkman remembers the last station tuned when the radio was powered off. I have not been able to make this Sony Walkman CD player skip during playback under any circumstances with the G-Shock Protection enabled or disabled. The Sony Walkman CD Player proves to be a versatile performer with respect to the type of CD-DA, CD-R/RW or MP3 discs that can be played on the portable and the locations that it can be used effectively in. The Sony Walkmans 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Jack can be connected to any pair of powered speakers sporting a 3.5mm (1/8) Line Input Jack. The Sony Walkman can be attached to a car stereos cassette deck with the purchase of a car kit. This Sony Walkman CD Player D-NF340 is a great portable audio companion for the morning exercise routine, walks in the park, outings at the beach, listening to MP3 audio books, at home private listening sessions or when youre sitting poolside taking a sip from that refreshing cool glass of lemonade. In order to achieve audiophile sound reproduction from this portable CD player you should disable the G-Shock Protection during non-active use. The earbud headphones offer average sound at best. However, the sound can be improved upon dramatically with an upgrade to the Sony Extra Bass MDR-XB500 Stereo Headphones. The Sony Extra Bass Headphones produce copious amounts of detailed dynamic bass when combined with the playback precision of the Sony Walkman CD Player D-NF340. The Sony Walkman does not offer dual disc or DVD media playback. The Sony Walkman is powered by 2 AA dry cell batteries or it can be powered with a Sony AC-E45A AC Power Adapter. The Sony Walkman CD Player D-NF340 offers excellent battery life performance for your advanced portable audio mobile power needs. There is no definitive answer as to the actual length of time that the batteries will last. The battery specifications provided by Sony in the user manual are only approximate, are only offered under perfect factory operating conditions and are only accurate if you use Sony branded LR6 AA alkaline batteries. Your Sony Walkman will have different battery life results because it is not likely to be used exclusively at the Sony factory. Battery longevity will vary by battery manufacturer and battery chemistry. The longer the duration the Sony Walkman CD Player D-NF340 is powered on and as the volume level increases during playback battery life will be shortened accordingly. Battery power will be consumed more quickly when the G-Shock Protection is enabled. Proceed with caution. I recommend Duracell Coppertop, Duracell Ultra, Energizer Max alkaline batteries or Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA batteries for maximum audio performance and battery life of this magnificent Sony Walkman CD Player. Stay away from cheap no name label alkaline or carbon-zinc batteries. These unknown brand batteries are of inferior quality, last a very short time span and have a tendency to leak inside the battery compartment. Make sure to never mix old and new batteries, different battery types and different battery brands. Remove the single-use alkaline batteries from the battery compartment if the Sony Walkman is not going to be used for an extended period of time to avoid damage from battery leakage. The lithium battery type features a leak-resistant construction and may be more suitable for long-term storage in extreme temperatures when compared to a standard alkaline battery. The batteries should be replaced when the Sony Walkman consistently outputs subpar sound or no sound at all. The Sony Walkman CD Player D-NF340 is compatible with the following AA 1.5V battery types: carbon-zinc, alkaline, lithium and NiMH rechargeable batteries (1.2V). When purchasing batteries for this unit it is a good idea to check the date on the package. A fresh set of alkaline batteries should have a best if used by date of at least 6 or 7 years ahead of the date of purchase. In the case of lithium batteries, the package date may be up to 15 years ahead of the current date of purchase. Battery life is determined by many factors and that is why individual outcomes vary. Such factors include the type of music being played, the volume level being used and ambient room or outdoor temperature. Battery performance will be decreased if this Sony Walkman CD Player D-NF340 is powered by alkaline batteries in extremely cold temperatures. You should always have a spare set of batteries nearby in case audio performance deteriorates in the middle of your favorite song. A lithium AA battery is approximately 33% lighter in weight when compared to a standard alkaline AA battery. As a result, the total weight of the Sony Walkman will be affected by the type of batteries inserted in the battery compartment. This product includes a 90-day labor and a one year parts limited manufacturer warranty. The product dimensions are as follows: Width: 5-5/8, Height: 1-1/8, Depth: 5-5/8, (140 x 32.7 x 140 mm) and Weight: 7.5 ounces (210 g). Unfortunately, the Sony Walkman CD Player D-NF340 does not offer an AM Band tuner for enjoyment of local news broadcasts, traffic reports, weather forecasts and sports talk programs. Overall rating 5 stars. Good Luck. Enjoy. What’s great about it: Excellent CD Playback, Solid Build Quality and FM Band Tuner What’s not so great about it: No AM Band Tuner
