SOTD: youtube/watch?v=ci5D5r6ZjXA the righteous person that i am, i feel like i probably should explain to the few of you who actually check out this page why green day gets angry every october. billy joe armstrong was a kid when his father died. upset he ran home from the funeral and locked himself in his room. when his mother got there and knocked on the door, all he said was: wake me up when september ends. the song was later written in his fathers memory and he gets pissed off that it turned into a pop culture phenomenon. regardless of billys anger, the song keeps kicking it after a decade. if anything, its release can be periodized as the pinnacle of alternative culture in the last decade. its a damn good song, and even as billys upset state is understandable and justified year after year, i think its still great that weve got this phenomenon in our lives. ranter out.
