SOUNDS LIKE MR.MCCAUSLANDS DSD SUPPORTS THE OBJECTORS TO JOHN LEWIS MAYBE THATS WHY HE WOULD NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION Fears over Belfast Royal Exchange scheme 26 May 2010 by Hannah Jordan, Be the First to Comment A decision by Northern Irelands Department for Social Development to defer an allocation of £110 million in funding for a major regeneration scheme in the centre of Belfast has sparked fears that the project could be permanently mothballed. Local press reports that the Royal Exchange scheme had been put on hold were not true, a DSD spokesman said. But the spokesman confirmed that the department is to temporarily withhold £110 million that was scheduled to be allocated to the scheme this year because the project has not made the progress that was anticipated. The DSD spokesman said: We have signed the agreement with the developer who must submit the planning application by 31 October 2010. We will allocate the money to the scheme when it is actually needed and would now like to use some of the money set aside for it for regeneration projects to renew our urban centres, increase confidence in our neighbourhoods and provide much needed jobs in the construction sector.
