I have considered your counter-proposals but regrettably must immediately indicate that we cannot accept them. The financial situation has deteriorated to unprecedented levels, that not only mean we cannot meet the financial obligations that are entailed by your proposals, but we would have to implement the proposal we forwarded to you in conjunction with meeting financial targets that indicate improvements in the financial position of the organisation. Further, I wish to record that the proposals were made in anticipation of the return to normal operations in the shortest possible time. This has proved not to be the case and the reality of our situation is that the South African Post Office (SAPO) is in the worst position it has ever been. It is abundantly clear that the current business model is not sustainable and requires that the business undergo a serious re-engineering process to ensure immediate stability and long-term survival. We are looking forward to your support in that process. We remain committed to addressing all the issues identified by all parties in a genuine effort to reach a lasting solution.
