SOUTH BEND OUTAGE UPDATE I&M crews worked expeditiously - TopicsExpress

SOUTH BEND OUTAGE UPDATE I&M crews worked expeditiously throughout Saturday evening and into Sunday morning. Power is expected to be restored between 11:00 a.m. and noon today. I&M officials are in communication with the City of South Bend, Memorial Hospital, and all emergency services regarding this plan. As we transition back to normal service, we encourage customers that are running on a properly installed generator to please remain on the generator. I&M has made contact with a number of customers on generators and will continue to canvas the area to ensure those customers running a generator make a smooth transition back onto the grid. For those customers who are not using a generator, we ask that all non-essential items be shut off. Taking this precaution will prevent damage to customer equipment and minimize the stress on the network. We understand the inconvenience of this unfortunate event and wish to thank the South Bend community for their patience as repairs were made to the electric system. This was a particularly difficult weekend considering the commencement ceremonies that were planned for Notre Dame University and Saint Mary’s College students. Throughout the outage, South Bend banded together and the collaboration with the Mayor’s Office, the South Bend Fire and Police Departments, the St. Joseph County Emergency Management Agency, the South Bend Public Works Department, Memorial Hospital and the impacted businesses lessened the hardship faced by the community. We appreciate the efforts of these groups so that crews could focus on getting the power restored safely and as quickly as possible. Again, we thank the entire South Bend community for their patience during this service interruption.
