SOUTHPORT RESIDENTS Update: Emergency situation, Southport December 25, 2014 at 7:13 am Police are asking residents in White Street and surrounding areas to stay inside their homes for their safety as they respond to an incident. A declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act was made at 2.10am after officers were called to an address in Anne Street after reports of a disturbance. It is believed a man is armed and fired one shot before retreating to a unit inside a complex on White Street. Residents in the complex are being evacuated for their own safety. At this stage, it is unknown how many people are inside the unit. Specialist police are at the scene. Police have blocked off areas around White Street. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible. While police understand that many people will soon be wishing to leave their homes and make their way to Christmas festivities, for their own safety, they are requested to stay inside until advised otherwise. They should also follow directions given to them by police.
