SOVEREIGNTY The term sovereignty is a taken from latin word "superanus" which means "supreme". the use of the word "sovereign" is technical technical term in political science was firstly used by the French Philosopher "JEAN BODIN" in 1576, in his work "The Republic". Before him also the idea of sovereignty was common, though it was known by other names, Aristotle says it "supreme power" of the state. Medieval writers recognised it as the fulness of power of the state etc. Sovereignty denotes the supreme power of the state and it is one of the most essential elements of the state, without which the state cannot sustain. The term sovereign has got two aspects- 1. Internal and 2. External. Internal means that the laws of the state are binding on the obedient citizens. Any violation of the laws will results in due by coercive authority. In the external aspects, the sovereign makes the state free from external control and thereby it becomes independent one.
