************** SPACE COAST HALF MARATHON 2014 ******************* This was such a fantastic weekend I was sad to see it end. I started my drive to Cocoa Beach Saturday Morning at midnight, got to Cocoa at 6 AM and got ready to help hand out bibs at the expo. I got to meet old friends, and also meet many FB Friends for the first time. Space Coast always makes packet pickup as easy and fast as possible, and its fun helping them. When my shift was over,I headed to my hotel. My good friend Dave Crowe, who came down from Canada always gets a really nice room at the Best Western. This hotel is AWESOME. The room has a kitchen and room enough for 2 so we had our seperate area and tvs. Plus, the owner loves to bake, and we had fresh baked banana bread in the morning. The race is one of the best, the roads are narrow,so they have a cap on the number of runners allowed in the half and full. The half is run on the second half of the Full Course,so there is no crowding, and the views of sunrise and eagles and dolphins take your breath away. The people who live along the course really welcome us,cheering us,and some even set up water and food stations. I can not say enouugh nice about them, true southern hospitality. The water stops are space themed, which makes them fun,and they really get into it,your cheered as if your the lead runner. The weather was PERFECT, 50s at the start, warming to the 70s later in the day. It was supposed to be overcast, but we all got blue skies and calm winds to run in,what a change form the cold I have been running in. The course is shaded by large trees,so I really never felt over heated. The finish takes place in a small park, you run around a loop, get your medal,FANTASTIC SHUTTLE MEDAL, a very nice finishers towel and then more food they you can eat. PIZZA,EGGS,PANCAKES BEER, ORANGE JUICE and alos energy bars provided by PUBLIX SUPER MARKET. They also make sure that there is enough food till the last Marathon Runner crosses the finish line, and as most of us have experienced races were all you see are empty pizza boxes, the Space Coast had so much Pizza they were giving them away, lol I left at midnight for the drive home and avoided the THANKSGIVING GOING HOME traffic. Rocky gave me a scolding for living him alone, but I feed him and he is happy now :-) If you want to run Half which is about as perfect as one can get, then by all means run the SPACE COAST.
