SPD NEWS - OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING UPDATE The preliminary investigation has revealed the following: On Thursday, May 15, 2014, at 5:54 pm, Stockton Police Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 400 block of Glendora Avenue to investigate a report of a fight in progress, where the participants were armed with bats. When a solo Patrol Officer arrived, he saw the suspect chasing the victim, a 24 year old man, into the parking lot. The suspect was shooting a handgun at the victim. The Officer ordered the suspect to drop the weapon and the suspect turned towards the Officer pointing the handgun at the Officer. The Officer then fired his duty weapon multiple times at the suspect, striking him three times. The suspect dropped his firearm near some parked cars in the parking lot and walked away. Officers then took the suspect into custody and medics transported him to a local area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Detectives were called out for the shooting investigation and like all use of force cases; this shooting will be reviewed administratively. Suspect: Christian Lee Hof, a 20 year old man, resident of Stockton. He was arrested for one count of assault with a deadly weapon on the victim, one count of assault with a deadly weapon on an Officer, and other weapon related charges. Hof was placed under guard at the hospital by Stockton Police Officers. Suspect’s Weapon Recovered: (1) 5-shot .357 revolver, found with 4 expended casings and one live round. Involved Officer: Stockton Police Officer Benjamin Ratzlaff, hired in April 2013, assigned to the Field Services Division. The involved Officer was uninjured and placed on three day paid administrative leave.
