[SPEAK BLESSINGS] Matthew 14:19, And he commanded the multitude - TopicsExpress

[SPEAK BLESSINGS] Matthew 14:19, And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. The Greek word “ANABLEPO,” which was translated “looking up” in this verse, means more than to lift the eyes toward heaven. This word was used in Matthew 11:5, where Jesus said, “The blind RECEIVE their SIGHT”. It was also used in Matthew 20:34, which says, “Immediately their eyes RECEIVED SIGHT”. Bartimaeus used the same word in Mark 10:51 when he said, “That I might RECEIVE MY SIGHT” (emphasis mine). And it is used in the next verse, which says, “Immediately, he RECEIVED his SIGHT” (Mark 10:52). This word was also used five times in John 9 to refer to the blind man, whom Jesus healed, receiving his sight. And it was used in Acts to describe the blind being able to see. The dominant use of the word referred to receiving sight. ANABLEPO actually means to see again. It is referring to Jesus doing more than lifting His head. He was receiving spiritual sight. What He had in His hand wasn’t enough for the need, so He needed to see beyond the physical. He lifted His eyes and saw into the spiritual realm and the limitless supply of God. He saw it on the inside before anyone saw the miracle on the outside. This is what we have to do. We often encounter people with needs we can’t meet in our own ability. But instead of sending them away (Matthew 14:16), we just need to take what we have and bless it, instead of cursing it. We then look with the eyes of our hearts at God’s limitless supply, and He will multiply our feeble efforts. Notice that Jesus blessed the little bit that He had, instead of cursing it. When we complain about how little we have, we are cursing it. We need to “look up” and see things the way God sees. Then, we will bless and curse not (Romans 12:14).
